FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who do we help? We believe everyone should have access to quality food, clothing, shelter and housewares, resources and pathways for healthy living, and educational resources that inspire and promote self-suffiency and community involvement. Individuals and families should not feel humiliation, undignified, be discriminated against, or feel "Less Than" just because they need support from the community to meet their basic needs. This philosophy applies to all people who access our services and we will serve everyone regardless of their race, culture, religion, gender and/or gender identity, age, disabilities. What's the catch? There is no "catch" - we want to help people, plain and simple. What do I need to qualify for help or assistance? If you or your family need any of the services we provide, you qualify. Do I have to pay for anything? No. We are a Non-Profit here to provide services for you. How fast can I get help or assistance? We check our registration and service applications daily. When you register and/or apply for services, our goal is to address any emergent need you have as soon as we recieve your request/registration. Beyond emergent needs, we will contact you within 48 hours to meet with you and assess your short term and/or long term needs. What are basic needs? Live 4 Love Human Outreach defines Basic Needs as: Food, Clothing, Home/Shelter, Health and Education. How long can I access your services? Our goal is to help individuals and families achieve self-suffiency out of poverty and the struggle to meet their basic needs. You can access our services until we meet this goal together.

RESEARCH & DATA

Community Problem Summary: The poverty rate in Tacoma is 17.0%. One out of every 5.9 residents of Tacoma live in poverty. The bordering cities of Parkland, Spanaway, and Lakewood share an average poverty rate of 16.3%. Both National and Local research data show the inability or struggle to meet one’s basic needs are paramount reasons why people/families live in poverty and/or remain in poverty. Also, entities in place to address issues surrounding poverty often compete with other agencies thus creating “territorial” operation rather than a cohesive and shared focus on dissolving issues. Our goal is to decrease the poverty rate in these demographics by creating and increasing necessary services and resources and improving accessibility to services and resources for those in need. Live 4 Love Human Outreach staff and volunteers will do so through effective strategic planning and innovative programs and projects such as a full-service online resource and service center, community mobilization forums and celebrations, formation of existing service organizations “coalition” and various activities and events - all of which focus on meeting the basic needs of the client population served.
